About Pleasant Union

  • "A PLEASANT uNION OF BELIEVERS..."

On November 9th, 1863, ten people gathered together under the leadership of Pastor John R. Holt to officially form Pleasant Union Christian Church in a small log schoolhouse located where the current facilities stand. 150 years later, Pleasant Union still strives to be a "pleasant union of Christian believers" who "love God, love others & make disciples"

  • oUR mISSION - "LOVE gOD, lOVE OTHERS, MAKE Disciples"

Based in Jesus' command to “...love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself" (Luke 10:26) and "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20).

What We Believe

  • VERBAL INSPIRATION – We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is the verbally inspired, inerrant word of GOD. As such, it is the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
(II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:19-21; Psalm 119:105)

  • THE TRINITY – We believe there is only one living and true GOD but there are three eternal, co-equal, divine persons in the Godhead: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
    (Luke 3:21-22; I Peter 1:2, II Corinthians 13:14)

  • SALVATION – We believe man is born in sin and utterly unable to save himself, but that GOD in mercy sent His Son to redeem mankind. This He accomplished by the shedding of His blood on the cross and the resurrection of His body from the tomb. GOD therefore offers to every man the free gift of salvation from sin, and any man who will turn from his sin and trust completely in Jesus as his Savior will be saved.
    (Romans 3:23; John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 4:12; Acts 16:31)

  • VIRGIN BIRTH – We believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Therefore He was born without sin and was perfectly qualified to be the Savior of the world.
    (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:35)

  • RESURRECTION – We believe Jesus Christ rose from the dead bodily, ascended into heaven, and now is seated at the right-hand of GOD the Father as the only Mediator between GOD and man.
    (I Corinthians 15:20; Acts 2:32-33; I Timothy 2:5)

  • RETURN OF THE LORD – We believe Jesus Christ will come again and His coming will be a literal, bodily, personal and imminent return: the Christian’s “Blessed Hope.”
    (I Thessalonians 4:13-18, Acts 1:11; John 14:1-3)

  • HEAVEN AND HELL – We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment. Furthermore, we believe the souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the LORD
    (Matthew 25:46, John 5:28-29; II Corinthians 5:8)

  • CREATION – We believe GOD created the heaven and the earth and all that is in them from nothing in six days.
    (Genesis 1; Colossians 1:16-17; Nehemiah 9:6)

  • SATAN – We believe Satan is a personal being, the author of the Fall, and he will be eternally punished.
    (John 8:44; Revelation 20:10)

  • SANCTIFICATION – We believe every man truly born again by the spirit of GOD should desire to follow after holiness of heart and of life. It is therefore our duty to try to be conformed to the image of Christ, not following worldly practices, but walking in newness of life.
    (I Peter 1:15-16; Colossians 2:6-7)

  • ASSURANCE – We believe all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by GOD’s power and are thus secure in Christ. (John 6:37-40; John 10:27-30; I Peter 1:3-5) Furthermore, it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of GOD’s Word which, however, forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion for the flesh and warns believers to avoid unbelief and sinful living.
    (Romans 13:13-14; Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11-15; Hebrews 1:12-13)

  • CHURCH ORDINANCE – We as a church celebrate the two New Testament ordinances: Baptism and the LORD’s Supper. We believe neither of these ordinances holds in themselves or in their practice any efficacious grace or merit. They are, however, important in that they serve as symbols to remind us of the giving of Christ’s blood and body on the cross in the LORD’s Supper, and in the identification of the believer with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection in baptism. The LORD’s Supper is open to all who profess to be born again believers. Baptism by immersion is practiced following one’s public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as LORD and Savior.
    (Acts 2:41-42; Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 3:13-17; Romans 6:1-11; I Corinthians 11:24-29; Luke 22:14-20)

  • CHURCH MEMBERSHIP – We believe GOD desires for all Christians to be actively involved in a local church body. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
